Join us for a queer-friendly beachside yoga and sauna session – with an optional dip in the Tay Estuary included! We want these Sunday sessions to feel like a homecoming at the end of the week. We’ll move, we’ll breathe, then we’ll find some deep stillness and relaxation in the heat of the sauna. And maybe a bit of the rainbow community, too!
About your yoga teacher:
Jo is originally from Zimbabwe and is a proud member of the LGBTQ+ community. If you’re as anxious as she is, then you’re in the right place. She came to yoga out of a need to find equanimity and contentment amid mental health struggles. Her practice is sustained by the belief that yoga can help us come home to ourselves, each other, and the more-than-human world. It all starts with bringing awareness to the body, heart and mind. Her classes draw from the full breadth of the yogic discipline, including philosophy, breathwork, meditation and postural practice. As a student first and a teacher next, Jo is always learning and adapting. She strives to make her classes accessible to different bodies and ages. She loves to remind her students that, "It's not about how it looks. It's about how it feels."
Why practice with Jo:
Jo got her RYT 200 Yoga Teacher Training at The Shala Yoga School in Cape Town, South Africa. Since then, she's pursued continued education opportunities such as:
Yoga Origins: Roots of the Practice, a course with Firdose Moonda
Race & Equity in Yoga: Disruption As a Practice, a course with Accessible Yoga School
How to Be Creative in Your Yoga Sequencing, a course with Jenni Rawlings
Curcuma Club, a Yoga and Ayurveda learning and practice group
Webinars and talks with practitioners and thinkers such as Robin Wall Kimmerer, Philip Carr-Gomm, Jessica Hundley and Dr Rosalind Watts
Come as you are. Whether you come with friends or on your own, you’ll find a warm welcome and a supportive circle waiting for you. We meet you exactly where you are. No previous yoga experience needed, just a willingness to be present.
Your session will end with an hour in Bees Sauna with hot and cold therapy to help you ease into your Sunday.
We live in Scotland, and although Dundee is the sunniest city, please come prepared for any eventuality. Your yoga session will be outside, in nature, so plan accordingly.
