Winter Solstice Gathering 20.12.26
Meet the longest night with fire as the Winter Solstice happens on the 21st of December. Join us on the 20th of December as we close out the year by hosting a Winter Solstice Gathering down at Broughty Ferry Castle
The winter solstice is the shortest day and the longest night of the year, the moment the sun hangs lowest in the sky before it starts its slow climb back. Here in Scotland, that means barely seven hours of daylight, and sunset before four o’clock. It’s also the quiet turning point of the year: from the next day on, the light begins to return.
I have curated an event to celebrate the winter solstice with me by the sea.
Sauna with Bees Sauna - 40-minute slots for you to slow down your week and let the heat sink into your bones.
Reflective writing with Rachel-Jane - RJ will offer some prompts for reflective writing /poetry that stokes your embers to keep your inner fire ticking over the winter months, and we will finish with a collective call to action into the sea
Fragrance Readings from Lush Dundee, who will guide you through a fragrance reading to discover your own solid perfume to take away.
Hot food from Fat Tony’s - back by popular demand, Tony will be keeping our bellies warm with plant-based goodness and hot homemade chai masala.
A wee witchy corner with Amy from Fable & Fern – Gather round for a little storytelling and a gentle wander into the world of tarot and oracle cards. Amy will share an introduction to the cards before inviting you to pull one, helping you explore its meaning and what it might stir in you as we turn towards winter. A cosy corner for curiosity, reflection and a wee bit of magic.
Live music from Lucy and friends - to add ambience to the event and something to tap your foot to.
Spaces are limited; Scotland is Scotland, and unless it’s blowin a hoolie, the event will go ahead. Please come prepared for the weather. There will be a limited amount of shelter!
Each ‘set’ will have a gazebo to protect you as much as we can, and there will be fire pits dotted around the green.
What You Need to Know
Location: Broughty Ferry Beach, Dundee, next to the castle
Date: Sunday 20th December
Times: 2:30 - 4:30pm
Booking: Spaces for the gathering are limited to 25 people, but feel free to bring folks down with you.
Cost: £40 (inclusive of all sessions)
What to bring:
We live in Scotland, and although Dundee is the sunniest city, please come prepared for any eventuality. Unless the winds are too high (above 25mph), the event will go ahead.
Essential -
Warm clothes
Bottle of water (there will be a hydration station to refill)
2 towels for the sauna (one to sit on, one to dry yourself off)
Flip flops/sliders
Swimwear
Something to sit on (camping chair or blanket)
A cup/flask for your hot chai
Optional -
Neoprene gloves and socks
Dry robe
Hot water bottle
Blanket
Head light/lantern
Come and sit by the fire, let the sauna heat chase out the cold, write down what you’re ready to leave behind, and pull a card or two for what you’d like to carry into the new year. As the afternoon slips into dusk, we’ll be here with lanterns, hot chai and good company, celebrating the dark and the turn towards the light.
